Suspected cultists on Tuesday, January 7, attacked and killed a 30-year-old barber in the Obantoko area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The victim, identified as Toheeb Folarin, was reportedly in his shop when the attackers stormed the premises around 10:00 pm. They shot him on the left side of his chest before severing his left hand and fleeing with it.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Obantoko led a team of detectives, supported by the Anti-cultism Unit of Adatan Area Command, to the scene. They discovered Folarin lying in a pool of blood with his severed hand missing.
Efforts by the officers to transport the body to the mortuary were met with resistance from angry youths, who insisted on burying the deceased in line with Islamic rites.
Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed that the command has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators. She assured that the heightened tension caused by the incident has been brought under control.
