Gov Abiodun Urges Religious Leaders to Unite Against Poverty, Insecurity

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has urged religious groups to work with governments at all levels to tackle pressing societal issues like poverty and insecurity in Nigeria.

The Governor made this call during the induction ceremony of the South West officers of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the 56th birthday celebration of CAN’s South West President, Bishop Akintunde Akin-Akinsanya, held in Abeokuta on Thursday.

Prince Abiodun emphasized that his administration recognizes the important role of the Christian community in shaping the nation’s socio-cultural and spiritual landscape.

“As a government, we greatly value the contributions of the Christian community in shaping the socio-cultural and spiritual foundation of our country.

“In these challenging times, it is crucial for us to come together to address major societal issues, particularly poverty, inequality, and insecurity,” he said.

He called on CAN members in the South West to lead with integrity, compassion, and a heart of service.

The Governor further encouraged them to promote dialogue and actions that would advance both Christian values and the greater good of society.

He also urged all religious leaders, regardless of faith, to continue supporting the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while commending the President for his leadership in navigating the nation’s economic complexities.

“The Church, as the moral guide of society, must continue its role in advocating for socio-economic progress. This will help align with the vision of our nation’s founders and current leaders,” he said.

The Governor affirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence among all citizens, regardless of tribe, religion, or political leaning, stressing that true development is only possible in a peaceful environment.

He reiterated that his administration would continue supporting religious initiatives that promote harmony and uphold the dignity of life.

Governor Abiodun also agreed to the church’s request for the reconstruction of the Kemta Housing Estate road leading to Community Faith Avenue.

“I accept your request and promise that the road will be reconstructed and made more accessible. By God’s grace, this road will be tarred before your next visit,” he said.

The event also featured the decoration of Prince Abiodun and former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the Grand Patron of South West CAN and founding father of CAN, respectively.
