Abia State Governor Otti Approves N70,000 Minimum Wage for Workers

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has given approval for the payment of N70,000 as the new minimum wage for workers in the state.

The implementation is set to begin in October 2024.

This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, during a press briefing following Monday’s State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Otti.

Kanu emphasized the state government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare, stating that the payment of the new minimum wage will begin in a matter of days.

“The state government is committed to the minimum wage, and payment will commence within the next few days,” Kanu explained.

He further stated, “If the governor decides to exceed the national benchmark and offer a higher wage, it will be carried out accordingly.”

The approval was also confirmed by Commissioner for Labour and Productivity, Sunny Onwuma.
