Abiodun: Ogun Among Two States That Can Survive Without FAAC

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has stated that only Ogun and Lagos States possess the economic capacity and viability to thrive without Federal Government interventions or the monthly allocations from the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

Highlighting his Administration’s achievements in Ogun State, including improvements in internally-generated revenue (IGR), infrastructure, transportation, health, education, and agriculture, the governor expressed confidence in accomplishing more milestones in the coming year.

He said, “Today, we are the fastest-growing economy in this country. We are the state with the most improved IGR, and one of the two most resilient states in Nigeria. This means that, alongside Lagos, we are the only two states that can survive, God forbid, without Federal intervention.”

Speaking at the Crossover Church Service held at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta, in the early hours of Wednesday, Governor Abiodun disclosed plans to revisit the moribund Olokola Deep Seaport project in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, with a potential launch slated for January or February 2025.

While discussing the launch of the Gateway Agro-Cargo Airport, Kajola Dry Port, and efforts to link Lagos’ red and blue railway lines to Kajola and Agbara rail tracks, the governor noted that the Olokola Deep Seaport would complete the state’s transportation master plan.

“Sometime in January or February 2025, we will be announcing the Olokola Deep Seaport. That will be the final tick in our transportation master plan,” he added.

Governor Abiodun also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering an economy rooted in growth, equity, and resilience through sustainable development strategies.

He urged residents of Ogun State to set aside differences and continue to coexist peacefully for the state’s and the nation’s collective progress.

“As we move into 2025, let us come together with a renewed sense of purpose, setting aside our differences and working towards the betterment of our beloved state,” he said.

“This New Year is a time to reflect and remind ourselves of our shared responsibilities. Let us step into 2025 with renewed hope, determination, and focus, striving to make Ogun State a model of progress, development, and prosperity.”
