The Alaafin of Oyo-elect, Oba Abimbola Owoade, is set to undertake a 21-day period of traditional rites as he ascends to the throne of the ancient town.
Governor Seyi Makinde officially announced Oba Owoade as the new monarch of the historic Yoruba lineage on Friday, presenting him with the staff of office on Monday.
He succeeds the late Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who passed away three years ago.
The event saw the attendance of the kingmakers, known as the Oyomesi, alongside top government officials and other distinguished personalities from the state.
A source, speaking anonymously, disclosed that the new Alaafin has departed for Oyo town to be received by his people. The source further revealed that Oba Owoade’s 21-day traditional rites for his coronation have commenced immediately.
“Oba Owoade has traveled to Oyo town to meet its sons and daughters and begin the mandatory 21 days of traditional rites for ascending the throne of his forebears,” the source said.
