In a recent statement, former Minister of Transportation and ex-governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, described the state as the “capital of betrayals,” claiming that many of its politicians owe their political careers to him.
Amaechi made these assertions in a video, where he emphasized his influence over the political landscape in Rivers, adding that several local politicians have benefitted from his support over the years.
In the same statement, he distanced himself from any involvement in political violence, affirming that he does not fund thuggery. “I aim to maintain my moral integrity,” Amaechi stressed, underscoring his commitment to ethical political conduct. He highlighted concerns about the accountability of politicians whose actions may lead to harm, according to a report by Daily Post.
Amaechi’s comments followed the recently concluded local government elections in Rivers State, which have sparked heightened political rivalries. As a former governor, his views carry substantial weight, and his critique of the state’s political atmosphere points to deeper tensions within the political circle.
Accusations of betrayal and thuggery have become common in Rivers’ politics, and Amaechi’s remarks reflect his frustrations with the current dynamics. His stance against political violence also appears to be an effort to reshape his public image amidst a turbulent period in the state’s political scene.
