Former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been given a 28-day suspension from boxing by the British Boxing Board of Control after his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last Saturday at Wembley Stadium.
Joshua was knocked down four times and ultimately stopped in the fifth round by Dubois’ powerful right hand.
The suspension, a routine medical precaution following a KO or TKO loss, bars Joshua from competing in the boxing ring during this period. However, with no confirmed future bouts, this mandated break is unlikely to disrupt his immediate plans.
Joshua’s defeat to Dubois marks his fourth career loss, following earlier defeats to Andy Ruiz Jr. and Oleksandr Usyk. Despite retirement speculations, Joshua has rejected the idea, expressing his resolve to return stronger. He hinted at a possible rematch against Dubois.
In a social media post, Joshua reflected on his career, saying, “We’ve got to focus on the positives… It’s far from over yet,” and promised to take the right steps forward to reach the top again. Promoter Eddie Hearn has also mentioned potential future bouts, including a long-awaited match with Tyson Fury.
Dubois’ promoter, Frank Warren, suggested Dubois could fight again in February, leaving room for a rematch if Joshua chooses to pursue it. Joshua might also wait for the outcome of the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk fight set for December.
