The Chairman of the Boot Party in Ogun State, Abiodun Akerele, has called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to take urgent action against the increasing cases of cult-related killings in the state.

Mr. Akerele made this appeal on Wednesday during the official launch of the party in Abeokuta, where he also raised concerns about the growing insecurity across Ogun.

He emphasized that the governor, as the chief security officer of the state, has a constitutional responsibility to ensure peace and protect lives and property.

According to him, Governor Abiodun must be held accountable if necessary measures are not taken to address the violence.

“Gov. Dapo Abiodun has been so silent about the killings among cult members in Ogun,” Mr. Akerele said. “I think he should stop making empty promises and take action because he is responsible for ensuring peace and unity in the state.”

He urged residents to hold the governor accountable if decisive steps are not taken, stressing that leadership comes with the responsibility to serve the people.

On the issue of local government autonomy, Mr. Akerele criticized the recently concluded local government election in Ogun, describing it as a “selection rather than an election.”

“In the just-concluded election, what we witnessed was not a democratic process but a selection. However, come 2027, we hope for a change of government and a return to true democracy,” he said.

The Boot Party chairman also assured supporters that the party is prepared to make significant strides in the state, with plans to take over governance during the 2027 general elections.

“The Boot Party is here to stay, and we are committed to ensuring that competent leaders emerge to govern and serve the people,” Mr. Akerele declared.
