DSS operatives have positioned themselves at the Federal High Court in Abuja in anticipation of the resumption of the trial of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
This development follows the Court of Appeal’s acquittal of Kanu in October 2022, overturning the terrorism charges and condemning his abduction from Kenya to Nigeria.
Despite the appellate court’s ruling, the Nigerian government appealed to the Supreme Court, which on December 15, 2023, ordered Kanu’s trial to continue on terrorism charges.
Kanu, who has been in DSS custody since June 2021, is set to be defended by a new legal team, led by Alloy Ejimakor, replacing Chief Mike Ozekhome SAN and Ifeanyi Ejiofor, although the reason for this change remains undisclosed.
