In the midst of ongoing controversies surrounding local government leadership in Osun State, the Chairman of Ila Local Government, Alhaji Hon. Adeyemi Adebara, has directed all National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) staff to resume work on Monday, 24th February 2025, following his reinstatement as the authentic chairman.
This directive comes on the heels of a recent Court of Appeal judgment in Akure, which reinstated local government chairmen and councillors previously sacked by Governor Ademola Adeleke. The appellate court’s decision has led to conflicting interpretations and heightened tensions across the state. Notably, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) proceeded with conducting local government elections on Saturday, 22nd February 2025, declaring all 30 local government seats vacant after nullifying the 2022 polls.
In a statement issued from his office on Sunday, Adebara emphasized the importance of resuming duties, urging staff members to remain committed to their responsibilities. “Following my rightful reinstatement as the authentic Chairman of Ila Local Government in accordance with the rule of law, I hereby direct all National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) staff to resume at their respective offices tomorrow, Monday, 24th February 2025. It is essential that we all return to our duties with a sense of responsibility, as the smooth running of governance depends on our collective devotion to service,” he said.
Adebara further advised staff members to maintain a law-abiding stance and avoid any actions that could disrupt the progress of the local government. “I urge all staff members to remain law-abiding citizens and distance themselves from any actions that could hinder the progress of our local government. Let us focus on building an environment of peace, productivity, and collective development.”
Addressing concerns about salary payments, the chairman dismissed any misinformation suggesting disruptions in salary disbursement. “Furthermore, I strongly advise you to disregard any misinformation regarding salary payments. Your salaries remain secure and will henceforth be handled under this administration without any delay or interference. Any false narratives suggesting otherwise are mere attempts to create unnecessary panic and should be ignored,” he reassured.
Adebara reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to staff welfare and the development of Ila Local Government. “As we move forward, I assure you of my continuous support and commitment to the welfare of all staff and the community as a whole. Let us work together to foster a more efficient and prosperous Ila Local Government,” he concluded.
The directive is expected to bring stability to the local government administration and ensure the effective discharge of duties by its workforce amidst the broader state-level disputes over local government leadership
