Former Chelsea star Chris Sutton has launched a scathing attack on Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, labeling the Dutchman as ‘deluded’ in the aftermath of the Manchester derby.
Sutton further suggested that Ten Hag’s tenure at the Red Devils might not extend beyond this season.
In a post-match analysis following United’s defeat to Manchester City at Etihad Stadium on Sunday, where Phil Foden’s brace and Erling Haaland’s goal secured victory for the hosts, Ten Hag praised his team’s defensive efforts, claiming they could have won the game against Pep Guardiola’s side.
However, Sutton expressed dissatisfaction with Ten Hag’s assessment, stating on Mail Sport’s It’s All Kicking Off podcast: “Erik ten Hag is deluded.”
Sutton criticized Ten Hag’s optimistic remarks, emphasizing the vast gap between Manchester City and Manchester United. He questioned Ten Hag’s assertion of progress and good performance, suggesting that United fans should scrutinize the manager’s statements and the team’s playing style.
He concluded by casting doubt on Ten Hag’s future at United, stating that he doesn’t believe anyone sees a long-term prospect for the manager beyond this season.
