Popular Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, commonly known as AY, and his wife Mabel have announced their separation after two decades of marriage. The comedian confirmed the news via an Instagram post on Sunday, citing the need to refrain from discussing deeply personal family matters in the public sphere.

In his statement, AY expressed a desire to shield his family from undue scrutiny, particularly his grown-up daughter who has access to social media. He acknowledged making decisions he isn’t proud of and emphasized the complexity of assigning blame in marital discord. AY lamented the prevalence of falsehoods in online discussions but remained confident that truth would prevail.

Mabel, on her part, echoed a similar sentiment in her Instagram post, stating that she would no longer engage in arguments or drama, choosing instead to distance herself from disrespectful situations.

AY and Mabel tied the knot in November 2008 and are parents to two children. Their decision to separate marks the end of a long-standing union, with both parties expressing a commitment to privacy and mutual respect moving forward.
