Contractors responsible for the 107-kilometre Ilara-Ijoun-Eggua-Oja Odan-Ilase Road in Ogun West Senatorial District have mobilized to the site and commenced construction on Section 1 of the project.
Facilitated by Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Ogun West) in the 2024 Budget, the road traverses four Local Government Areas (LGAs) within the district: Imeko Afon, Yewa North, Ipokia, and Yewa South. This project is a significant infrastructural development connecting Nigeria to its international borders with the Republic of Benin.
Commenting on the project, which had been neglected for decades, Senator Adeola expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for their contributions toward ensuring the project’s commencement.
He praised the collaborative efforts across senatorial, state, and federal levels, noting that such synergy is driving progress for the APC Renewed Hope Agenda in Ogun State.
“During my senatorial campaign, I traveled through portions of this road to reach towns like Igan Alade, Eggua, and Ijoun. It was heartbreaking to see vehicles and individuals completely enveloped in red dust, making them almost unrecognizable. I pledged to change this deplorable situation, and I’m grateful that my appeals to the President and Governor led to the project’s inclusion in the 2024 Appropriation Act,” he said.
The road, divided into four sections for easier execution, passes through towns such as Ilara and Ata in Imeko Afon LGA; Daramola, Tobolo, Aworo, Iyana Agbede, Ijale Ketu, Ibiyan, Ijoun, Tata, Imoto, Igan Alade, Eggua, Iselu, Ile Igbooro, and Oja Odan in Yewa North LGA; Odan Itoro, Ibola Fagbohun, and Abodein in Yewa South LGA; and Ifonyintedo, Alari, Koko, and Ilase in Ipokia LGA.
Senator Adeola stated that the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027. He emphasized its economic significance for Ogun West Senatorial District and Ogun State, noting that it aligns with Nigeria’s national development plans for border regions.
