Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has appealed to be moved to Kuje prison after his bail request was denied by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday.
Kanu, currently held by the Department of State Services (DSS), cited serious health concerns that he claims cannot be adequately addressed at his current detention facility.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the medical facilities provided by the DSS, stating that his heart condition requires specialized treatment. Kanu highlighted visible symptoms, particularly swelling in his feet, as evidence of his deteriorating health.
Furthermore, he lamented the restricted access imposed by the security agency, alleging a deliberate attempt to isolate him from visitors.
Addressing the court, Kanu voiced suspicions of a conspiracy to endanger his life while in custody, stressing the urgency of his transfer to Kuje prison.
Nnamdi Kanu faces a seven-count treasonable felony charge filed against him by the Federal Government. Despite a previous ruling by the Court of Appeal that quashed the charges and ordered his release, the Supreme Court overturned the decision, resulting in the continuation of his trial.
