A well-known cross-dresser, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, commonly referred to as Bobrisky, was detained on Wednesday evening by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Lagos State.
You will recall reported earlier that he was arrested; now it’s been confirmed. This was verified by the agency’s spokesperson, Mr. Dele Oyewale, in a phone call with our corespondents on Thursday morning.
According to the EFCC spokesperson, Bobrisky was detained for defacing naira notes and not for his cross-dressing lifestyle. “It is accurate that our team apprehended him yesterday evening in Lagos for naira defacement.

We have no involvement with his lifestyle (as a cross-dresser). He was under suspicion of committing an economic offense, and that led to his detention,” Oyewale elaborated.
Bobrisky’s detention comes just 24 hours after the Nigeria Police Force declared that it lacked sufficient evidence to detain him for same-sex activities.
The Nigeria Police Force stated on Tuesday that it could not detain Bobrisky over demands to arrest the crossdresser.
There have been demands for Bobrisky’s detention, notably after social media influencer and blogger, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly addressed as VeryDarkMan, in recent videos criticized the presentation of Best Dressed Female award to the cross-dresser at a Nollywood event.
However, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Ademola, informed Channels TV on Tuesday that cross-dressers cannot be detained because Nigeria lacks a law against cross-dressing.
He also mentioned there is no evidence to substantiate assertions that cross-dressers are affiliated with the LGBTQ+ community.
