EFCC Labels Yahaya Bello Fugitive, Orders Immediate Arrest

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has labeled former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello a fugitive and issued orders for his immediate arrest.

This action follows multiple unsuccessful attempts to apprehend him, with his current location still unknown.

According to EFCC Spokesman Dele Oyewale, Bello faces charges of money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of N80.2 billion during his time as governor.

In an interview with News Central TV on Thursday, the spokesperson for the anti-corruption agency stated that they are collaborating with both local and international law enforcement agencies to secure his arrest.

Oyewale remarked, “The court of appeal has reinforced our stance and confirmed that we remain committed to this case.”

“We are coordinating efforts with local and international law enforcement to ensure Bello’s capture.

“Given the circumstances, Yahaya Bello cannot publicly surface. He must avoid exposure as he is now a fugitive, and the law will take its course.

“Wherever he is found, he will be arrested,” he concluded.

The EFCC’s declaration follows a Court of Appeal ruling in Abuja on August 20, 2024, instructing Bello to appear for arraignment on corruption charges filed by the EFCC.
