The Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has seized 21 trucks laden with food and non-food items destined for N’djamena, Chad Republic, Central African Republic, and Cameroon.
Operatives conducted a meticulous sting operation along major exit routes, including Kalabiri/Gamboru Ngala and Bama roads in Borno State, resulting in the interception of the illicit cargoes.
The investigation uncovered the surreptitious concealment of food items within the trucks, a tactic aimed at evading detection. However, the vigilant scrutiny of EFCC operatives thwarted the smuggling attempt.
Waybills found with the confiscated goods indicated their intended destinations as N’djamena, Chad Republic, Central African Republic, and Cameroon, underscoring the organized nature of the smuggling operation.
The swift action taken by the EFCC is poised to mitigate the threat of food insecurity exacerbated by the nefarious activities of smugglers across the nation.
The apprehended suspects are currently undergoing profiling, and upon the conclusion of investigations, they will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
