FG Allocates $800 Million for Substations & Network Upgrades

To tackle instances of load rejection by electricity distribution firms, the Federal Government plans to allocate eight hundred million dollars for the construction of new substations and distribution networks as part of the presidential power initiative.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, states that this funding will facilitate the development of substations for lot 2 and distribution lines for lot 3, each costing four hundred million dollars.

While on a facility tour of a power company in China, the Minister of Power explained that lot 2 of the project includes the franchise areas of Benin, Port Harcourt, and Enugu distribution companies, whereas lot 3 covers the Abuja, Kaduna, Jos, and Kano distribution company franchise areas.

According to industry records, distribution companies have recently rejected 1,400 megawatts of power.

This situation, the power minister notes with concern, comes as the Federal Government remains committed to increasing power generation to 6,000 megawatts by December this year.
