FG Assures Nigerians: No Job Losses Amid Oronsaye Report Implementation

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the Federal Government has moved to allay fears of job losses following the implementation of the long-awaited Oronsaye Report.

After twelve years of deliberation, the government has approved certain recommendations from the Oronsaye Report aimed at reducing the nation’s governance costs. This decision entails merging 29 government agencies and incorporating eight parastatals into other existing agencies.

Furthermore, four agencies will be relocated to various ministries, and one is slated for elimination. Originally submitted in 2012, the comprehensive report by Stephen Oronsaye highlighted the need for restructuring the public sector, revealing a staggering 541 governmental entities.

Minister Idris emphasized that the government’s primary goal is to enhance efficiency and reduce expenditure, not to initiate mass layoffs. He reassured the public, stating, “The whole idea is that the government wants to reduce cost and also improve efficiency in service delivery. It does not mean that the government is out to retrench workers or throw people into the labour market.”

This move underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to fiscal prudence and responsible governance, ensuring that essential services remain unaffected. The careful review preceding the approval demonstrates the government’s dedication to maintaining crucial functions while streamlining operations.
