The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Citizenship and Leadership, Rinsola Abiola, has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to improving access to justice for Nigerians, particularly the youth.
During a meeting with the leadership of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria (LACON), Abiola discussed ways to strengthen legal support and ensure fair legal representation. The Director General of LACON, Mr. Aliyu Bagudu Abubakar, highlighted the importance of the Police Duty Solicitor Scheme (PDSS) in providing timely legal assistance during investigations and interrogations. He stressed that the scheme plays a crucial role in upholding due process and protecting citizens’ rights.
Abiola emphasized the need to bridge the gap between citizens and law enforcement agencies, noting that fostering trust is essential for protecting rights and empowering vulnerable communities. She expressed her commitment to advancing the PDSS and looked forward to the long-term impact of the initiative.
“Access to justice is fundamental to safeguarding rights, promoting fairness, and ensuring young Nigerians can fully participate in civic life,” she stated.
She also extended her appreciation to partners, including the Nigerian Youth Futures Fund (NYFF), LEAP Africa, and the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC), for their dedication to the cause.
