The Federal Government has announced plans to reinvigorate the National Addressing Council (NAC) to tackle longstanding challenges in Nigeria’s addressing system. This initiative is expected to enhance urban planning, economic growth, and financial inclusion.
During a pre-meeting of the council held on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized the urgency of standardizing the nation’s addressing system. He noted that this move is pivotal for improving service delivery and overcoming infrastructural deficits that have hindered development for decades.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, the Vice President remarked, “A standardized addressing system is not just about locating properties; it is the bedrock of economic inclusion and effective governance.”
As part of this revitalization effort, a new NAC and a technical committee will be inaugurated next year. These bodies will spearhead efforts to implement a systematic national address mapping system, driving Nigeria’s agenda for planning, economic development, and efficient service delivery.
The Vice President concluded by calling on stakeholders to support the initiative, stressing its potential to transform the nation’s economic landscape and urban management.
