Timeless Update reports that Ibrahim Lamorde, former chairman of the anti-corruption agency, EFCC, has passed away at 61.
Mr. Lamorde died in Egypt, where he had gone for medical treatment, a close associate told PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday morning.
Born on December 20, 1962, Mr. Lamorde joined the Nigerian Police in 1986 and retired as Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2021.
While in the police force, he served as EFCC chairman from 2011 to 2015.
According to his profile on the EFCC website, Mr. Lamorde was the third Executive Chairman of the Commission. He was appointed acting Chairman on November 3, 2011, after Farida Waziri was removed by President Goodluck Jonathan. The Senate confirmed him as the third substantive Chairman on February 15, 2012.
Mr. Lamorde, born on December 20, 1962, in Mubi, Adamawa State, attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology in 1984. He joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1986.
When the EFCC was established in 2003, Mr. Lamorde became the pioneer Director of Operations. In December 2007, he assumed the role of Acting Chairman in January 2008, until Mrs. Waziri was appointed Chairperson and confirmed by the Senate in June 2008. In December 2010, Mr. Lamorde returned to the EFCC as Director of Operations, replacing Stephen Otitoju, the then Acting Director of Operations.
When Mrs. Waziri was replaced on November 23, 2011, Mr. Lamorde, then an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), was appointed Acting Chairman. He was confirmed as substantive Chairman of the EFCC on February 15, 2012, holding the position until November 9, 2015, when President Buhari replaced him with Ibrahim Magu as the acting EFCC Chairman.
