Fraudsters have reportedly cloned the website of indigenous aviation company, Air Peace, and duped unsuspecting customers.Air Peace raised the alarm on Tuesday, stating that some intending passengers attempting to book UK flights on its portal were defrauded by fraudsters who cloned its official website.
This comes just days after the airline launched its historic direct flight from Nigeria to the United Kingdom.
According to a post on X (formerly Twitter), the creators of the fake website used Air Peace’s website identity collaterals to create the fraudulent site, presenting it as the airline’s official booking platform.
“Our attention has been drawn to the existence of a website “www.flyairpeace.uk” purporting to be an official website and defrauding unsuspecting individuals.“
We would like to dissociate the Air Peace brand from this fraudulent site because it is not owned by us. The one and only website of the Air Peace remains “www.flyairpeace.com“
Members of the public should totally ignore the site, as it is impersonating Air Peace and fleecing passengers.”On March 30, 2024, Air Peace commenced daily flights to Gatwick, London.
In November, Air Peace’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Allen Onyema, announced that the airline had successfully obtained the Foreign Carrier Operator Permit and Third Country Operator Permit.
With a capacity of 274, the aircraft accommodated 260 passengers on its maiden voyage, symbolizing the eagerness and enthusiasm of Nigerians to connect with the world.
Among the passengers was Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, whose presence underscored the government’s commitment to supporting local operators while upholding best industry practices.
On the inaugural flight were also the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, distinguished Senators, House of Representatives members, and prominent celebrities spanning all walks of life.Stakeholders in the aviation sector have highlighted the multiplier effect of Air Peace’s Lagos-London flight on the Nigerian economy.
Doris Uzoka-Anite, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, emphasized that Air Peace’s presence in London signifies more than just arrivals and departures; it signifies trade, investment, and collaboration.“For choosing Air Peace, you choose to invest in Nigeria.
You choose to empower local businesses, create jobs, and strengthen our economy,” Uzoka-Anite said. She expressed her desire to change the negative trade balance between the UK and Nigeria, citing the additional trade route as a significant step in the right direction.
