Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Saturday launched the second phase of the women empowerment initiative, distributing N260 million to beneficiaries.
A total of 5,200 women, selected from the 44 local government areas, received N50,000 each. This monthly initiative aims to bolster the state’s micro and small-scale economy.
Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the Governor’s spokesperson, stated that 100 women from each of the 36 local government areas outside the metropolis and 200 women from each of the eight metropolitan local government areas are chosen monthly to benefit from this empowerment program.
Addressing the recipients at the government house, Governor Yusuf highlighted that the initiative is designed to foster self-reliance and independence among women by providing financial support for trade and skill acquisition. He emphasized that empowering women leads to regenerative investment, boosting the state’s GDP, enhancing the rural economy, and creating a sense of pride among beneficiaries.
The Governor expressed optimism that this financial support would help beneficiaries expand their small-scale businesses, promoting economic prosperity and breaking the cycle of poverty.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to appreciating the sacrifices made by women in the state and to transforming their lives through continued support.
The Governor also urged the people of Kano, particularly women, to maintain cleanliness as the rainy season begins, emphasizing the importance of personal hygiene for healthy living.
