Governor Abiodun Hails ‘Lisabi: The Uprising’ Movie as a Reflection of Egba Heritage

Timeless Update reports that Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has praised the movie Lisabi: The Uprising as a powerful reminder of the courage, resilience, and determination that have defined the Egba people throughout history. The Governor made this statement during the premiere of the film at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta.

Represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Abiodun highlighted that the Egba people have consistently faced challenges with unity and have always overcome adversity. “From the trials of the past to the challenges of the present, the Egba people have stood united, overcoming every obstacle that came their way,” the Governor noted.

The Governor also reflected on the historical figure, Lisabi, a 19th-century Yoruba hero who led a successful resistance against the Oyo Empire’s oppression. “Lisabi’s story resonates deeply with our current challenges and aspirations, reminding us of the power of unity and the importance of standing up for our rights,” he said.

Governor Abiodun assured the audience that his administration is committed to preserving and promoting the state’s rich cultural heritage. He emphasized the value of history and storytelling in shaping identity and fostering communal harmony, urging the public to take inspiration from Lisabi’s bravery and patriotism.

“By taking ownership of development initiatives that ensure sustainability, educating themselves on their rights and responsibilities, and promoting active citizenship, peaceful coexistence, and national identity, people can continue to embody Lisabi’s spirit,” the Governor added.

He congratulated the film’s producer, Mr. Lateef Adedimeji, for his dedication to preserving the rich cultural history of the Egba people. Governor Abiodun further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to cultural revival, social justice, and community development, stressing the importance of uniting the contributions of the citizens for the state’s growth.

Earlier in the event, Mr. Adedimeji explained that the premiere of the movie in Abeokuta was significant due to the uniqueness of Egbaland in tourism and the Ogun State government’s strides in creative arts, culture, and tourism. These, he noted, are core aspects of the state’s ‘ISEYA’ mantra.

Mr. Adedimeji pledged his continued support for promoting and showcasing the cultural heritage of the state and encouraged stakeholders in the film industry to keep highlighting Nigeria’s rich cultural legacy.
