Youths in Borno State, represented by the Borno Youth Forum, have penned an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, urging the release of former head of the IGP Intelligent Response Team (IGP-IRT), Abba Kyari, citing his efforts against Boko Haram insurgents and kidnappers in the nation.
Kyari has been detained for over a year due to allegations of abuse of power, with bail requests being denied. Several groups, including religious organizations, have appealed for his release, citing lack of evidence supporting the accusations.
The Borno Youth emphasized Kyari’s track record, particularly amidst the current surge in kidnapping cases and other security challenges. The letter, signed by Ahmed Yusuf, Forum Chairman, implored “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and release DCP Abba Kyari without conditions. The group urges the government to acknowledge DCP Abba Kyari’s exceptional and unparalleled achievements during his tenure as the IGP-IRT commander.
“In Borno State, he and his team put an end to all Boko Haram suicide bombings by apprehending the masterminds behind over 130 suicide attacks.”
The Forum highlighted Kyari’s pivotal role in apprehending the perpetrators of the 2014 Chibok Schoolgirls’ abduction, as well as the Nyanya and Kuje bombings in 2015, resulting in numerous fatalities. “He also uncovered and dismantled two bomb manufacturing facilities in Niger State, leading to a cessation of bombings in Abuja since that operation.
“We cannot overlook his apprehension of notorious criminal kingpins nationwide, including Evans, Godogodo, Vampire, Ade Lawyer, Umar Abdulmalik, Halti, Zakari Yau, Ability, Dabo, Dogo Russia, and others.”
