A witness recounted how a couple from Lagos fell prey to a fraudulent scheme, losing a total of £1 million to the defendants between May and July 2018. The trial, involving Morufu Adewale, Omitogun Ajayi, Ajisegiri Abiodun, Abayomi Alaka, Taiwo Ahmed, Raufu Raheem, and Sanlabiu Teslim, resumed at the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos.

The defendants faced re-arraignment in December 2022, with charges of obtaining funds under false pretenses. Testifying in Yoruba, witness Moruf Quadri, chauffeur to Dr. Lateef Bello, detailed how he drove his employer to remote locations for purported spiritual rituals. Quadri identified several defendants, recounting trips to Ikenne, Ijebu-Igbo, and Igbogbo, among others.

Money, including foreign currency, changed hands during these outings, with Quadri purchasing bags and even rams on his boss’s instruction. However, suspicions arose when Dr. Bello discovered missing funds from a designated box in Ijebu-Igbo.

Under cross-examination, Quadri clarified that he never entered the houses visited and provided statements to the EFCC.
