Ijebu-Ode Assault: Women Affairs Commissioner Steps In, Promises Justice and Care for Victim

The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Ogun State, Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, has taken swift action in addressing a disturbing assault case brought to her attention by. Ms. Adetoun Onajobi, popularly known as @justadetoun, informed the Commissioner about an incident involving a female tenant accused of pouring hot rice water on her landlord’s son at Ipanuren, Ijebu-Ode. The name of the victim has been withheld for privacy reasons.

 

In a statement, Hon. Adeleye highlighted the government’s commitment to immediate and effective action. She disclosed:
“I reached out to the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, who immediately directed the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, to provide urgent medical attention to the victim.

The CMD of OOUTH, Dr. Fatungase, coordinated the conduct of a thorough medical assessment and commenced necessary treatment without delay. In effect, the Ministries of Women Affairs and Health are committed to ensuring that he receives the best possible care.”

 

Hon. Adeleye commended Ms. Adetoun Onajobi and other vigilant citizens for drawing attention to this troubling incident, emphasizing the importance of such interventions in fostering a safer society.

 

She stressed the need for discretion in handling cases involving minors, as it not only safeguards their identities but also aids in their reintegration into society without stigma.

She stated further:
“The alleged perpetrator and other concerned individuals have been apprehended, while the State Command of the Nigeria Police Force is actively pursuing justice in the case. Therefore, we urge the good people of the State to continue reporting cases of child abuse, violence, or molestation to the nearest police station without fear as timely reporting is critical to ensuring swift intervention and justice for victims.”

 

Hon. Adeleye reaffirmed the Ogun State Government’s zero-tolerance stance on violence against women and minors under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun. She expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and community members who have supported efforts to ensure justice in this case.

 

The Commissioner concluded by urging residents to stay vigilant and committed to creating a safe environment for all, particularly for the most vulnerable members of society.
