Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court Abuja has granted the former Commander of the Force Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, temporary bail for two weeks on compassionate grounds to attend his mother’s burial.

Kyari was granted bail in the sum of 50 million Naira with a surety in the same amount.

Justice Nwite ordered that the surety, Kyari’s counsel in the matter, must submit a copy of his call-to-bar certificate to the court’s deputy registrar.

Kyari is required to surrender his travel passport to the court and report to any nearest formation of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) within the bail period.

The judge’s order is pending a decision on Kyari’s bail application scheduled for May 31, 2024.

Though Kyari lost his mother, Yachilla Kyari, on May 5, 2024, it is unclear if this influenced the bail decision.

In 2021, the Federal Bureau of Investigation indicted Kyari in connection with alleged international fraudster Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi.

Kyari was arrested by the NDLEA in February 2020 for alleged drug-related offenses and has been held at Kuje prison in Abuja since then.
