The Federal Government and Organised Labour have remained silent after their meeting earlier today.
Although sources revealed that the discussion focused on recent petrol price increases, their socio-economic impacts on Nigerians, and the minimum wage, none of the parties were willing to disclose the outcomes of the meeting.
Meanwhile, leaders from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) are currently holding a joint National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at Labour House, Abuja.
Petrol Price and Minimum Wage
Among the government’s representatives at the meeting, held at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), were Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser (NSA); Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Labour Minister; Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Others included Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Information Minister; Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum; Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), and representatives of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited.
Joint NEC Meeting Roll Call
Present at the joint Organised Labour meeting were NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero; Deputy President Kabiru Ado Sani; General Secretary Comrade Emma Ugboaja; TUC Deputy President Dr. Tommy Etim Okon; Secretary General Nuhu Toro, and President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), who also serves as a Deputy President of the NLC.
Other attendees included Benjamin Anthony, NLC Vice President, and Comrade Deborah Yusuf, Deputy Women Leader of the NLC.
