Late Akeredolu’s younger sibling, Prof Akeredolu assumes responsibility for widow, Betty Anyanwu Reportedly, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, widow of the former Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has remarried.
Betty has reportedly been entrusted to her late spouse’s younger sibling, Professor Wole Akeredolu.The decision was made by the Emeabiam Community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State.
The apex of the ceremony was the formal handover of Betty to Professor Wole Akeredolu by the Umuegeolu kindred, signaling the family’s desire to keep her in their midst after her husband’s demise.
Before this symbolic act, customary offerings of kolanuts, palm wine, and a she-goat were presented to the Umuegeolu kindred by the Akeredolus, in accordance with tradition.In response, Professor Wole Akeredolu expressed appreciation to the Umuegeolu kindred and the entire Emeabiam Community for their warmth.
He assured the Akeredolu family’s commitment to continue supporting Betty, acknowledging the assistance received during the mourning period and the burial ceremony held in Owo.
The Mgbafu Mkpe ceremony, an Igbo traditional custom, symbolizes the widow’s return to her husband’s family after his death.It involves mutual consent between the families, with rituals conducted accordingly.
