Around 3,000 people in Odeda Local Government benefited from the free medical outreach organized by Shalom Global Medical Missions, a U.S.-based non-governmental organization (NGO), in partnership with the Executive Chairman of Odeda Local Government, Hon. Folasade Adeyemo, PhD.
The two-day medical outreach was held at the Odeda Primary Health Center, located in the Obantoko area of Ogun State.
The foundation provided free eyeglasses and treatment for eye conditions, along with screenings for diabetes, hypertension, and other diseases. The program also included men’s health, mental health support, wound care, medication distribution, and general health check-ups.
The turnout from the local community was impressive, with people from Ward One through Ward Ten in Odeda participating. Many residents face financial barriers to accessing healthcare, making this event a crucial opportunity.
Individuals from all walks of life stood in line to access the free medical services.
In her speech, the chairman of Odeda Local Government, Hon. Folasade Adeyemo, PhD, expressed her appreciation for the strong community response and encouraged participants to prioritize their health and seek medical care when needed.
She also expressed gratitude to Shalom Global Medical Missions and its founders, Elder Adeyinka Shoremekun and Dr. Alice Shoremekun, along with their team, for collaborating to bring quality healthcare to Odeda and surrounding areas.
“This outreach is part of our commitment to enhancing the well-being of our residents. A healthy community leads to a prosperous community. This medical outreach will significantly benefit the people of Odeda Local Government,” said Adeyemo.
Dr. Alice Shoremekun, the founder of Shalom Global Medical Missions, stated that the goal of the program is to address the healthcare needs of those living with both communicable and non-communicable diseases in the area.
She added, “This program represents a public/private partnership in healthcare, supported by other NGOs, to maintain a robust health program.”
She emphasized that the program raised awareness about health issues and offered practical solutions to address them. According to Dr. Shoremekun, the initiative is one of the mission’s key activities, providing free healthcare services to the local community.
Beneficiaries of the outreach shared their gratitude and experiences. A 73-year-old resident, Elder Fashola Olusoji, noted that the healthcare workers were thorough and provided him with medication and advice for age-related health concerns.
Mrs. Adelere Mufuli from Olódò ward shared her relief, saying, “I struggled with my vision after a snake spat in my eyes, but with the reading glasses they provided, I can see better now.”
Another beneficiary, Mr. Rotimi Lawani from Obantoko ward, said, “I was unaware of my high blood pressure until this event. They tested my blood pressure, gave me advice on lifestyle changes, and prescribed medication.”
