The Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State on Monday sentenced a 38-year-old man, Sodiq Mohammed, to four years imprisonment for burglary and theft of electrical wires valued at N650,000.
Magistrate O.O. Fadairo, who presided over the case, convicted Mohammed on a four-count charge of burglary, stealing, malicious damage, and conspiracy.
The court, however, gave Mohammed the option of paying an N80,000 fine instead of serving the prison term.
Fadairo also ordered the convict, who had no fixed address, to pay N750,000 in restitution to the complainant, Ukiwa Esther.
The prosecution, led by Inspector E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that Mohammed committed the offences.
According to Adaraloye, the convict, along with an accomplice still at large, broke into Esther’s residence on March 29 at about 9:00 a.m. in Ota.
During the incident, they stole electrical wires worth N650,000 and damaged the PoP ceiling while attempting to gain entry.
Adaraloye noted that the offences violated Sections 390(9), 413, 451, and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
