A man has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for attacking an immigration detention officer in Kern County in 2022.
According to the Department of Justice in Fresno, Arsen Tonoyan, 48, an Armenian national who previously lived in Los Angeles, assaulted an officer at the ICE Golden State Annex detention center in Bakersfield.
On March 7, 2022, Tonoyan approached a detention officer, struck the officer multiple times, placed the officer in a chokehold, and brought the officer to the ground, federal prosecutors stated.
The officer sustained a concussion and other injuries during the assault.
Tonoyan was sentenced to three years and five months and was ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution.
