Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has taken decisive action by summoning the Chief Executives of major electricity distribution and transmission companies.
Adelabu has called upon the heads of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), and the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to attend a crucial meeting next week. The meeting aims to address the issues plaguing electricity supply in their respective regions and find lasting solutions.
The summoning comes amidst growing concerns over deteriorating power supply despite increased generation capacity. Despite efforts to ramp up generation to over 4000MW, certain regions continue to experience persistent outages and unreliable service.
According to the Minister’s office, some distribution companies have been found to be deliberately neglecting their responsibilities, while incidents of vandalism have further exacerbated the situation in regions such as Abuja, Benin, Port Harcourt, and Ibadan.
Adelabu has issued a stern warning to all distribution companies, emphasizing that non-performance will not be tolerated. He has directed TCN to expedite repair works on damaged transmission towers and power lines to restore supply in affected areas.
The Minister’s actions underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring stable and reliable electricity supply across the nation.
