The Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre (MLAILPKC), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has graduated participants of its one-week Leadership and National Cohesion Course in Abuja.
The ceremony, held on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), Asokoro, featured a keynote address by former Chief of Army Staff and Ambassador, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai (Rtd).
As the Special Guest of Honour, Buratai emphasized the need for collective and effective leadership to foster national cohesion in a multicultural society like Nigeria. He urged the participants to exemplify virtues such as honesty, patriotism, and integrity to inspire unity and bridge divides in their communities.
“You are ambassadors of hope and champions of national cohesion. Contemporary society demands leaders equipped to navigate complex challenges and inspire collective action,” Buratai stated. He further urged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the course to address pressing national issues and drive positive change.
The Commandant of MLAILPKC, Major General Ademola Adedoja, highlighted the course’s success in enhancing participants’ understanding of leadership and national unity. He praised their enthusiasm and commitment during the training and noted the Centre’s dedication to developing competent leaders for peace support operations in alignment with United Nations standards.
Adedoja also expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede, for his unwavering support of the Centre’s initiatives. He acknowledged the contributions of the UNDP and the Government of Japan in fostering human capacity development, promising to strengthen these partnerships in the future.
The event featured the presentation of certificates to the participants by Buratai, alongside souvenirs for dignitaries. Among the notable attendees were Lt Gen LO Adeosun (Rtd), Maj Gen Bulama Biu (Rtd), Maj Gen GA Wahab (Rtd), Maj Gen Etsu-Ndagi, and representatives from the UNDP and the Japanese Embassy.
The Leadership and National Cohesion Course is designed to equip leaders with skills to analyze and address national challenges, promoting unity and sustainable development in a diverse society.
