MultiChoice, the company behind DStv and GOtv, has rolled back recent price increases after a court ruling deemed them unjustifiable. The decision follows significant customer pushback, particularly in Nigeria, where over a million subscribers cancelled their services.

MultiChoice initially raised prices, attributing the increases to economic challenges such as inflation and currency devaluation. However, the move backfired, leading to customer dissatisfaction and cancellations.

The price rollback brings welcome relief to DStv and GOtv customers.

MultiChoice reflected the readjustment on its company apps as of Sunday, 16 June 2024.

Due to the adjustments, DStv subscribers will now pay N29,500 instead of N37,000 for the Premium package, while Compact Plus package subscribers can now pay N19,800 instead of the new price of N25,000.

The readjustment sees Compact Bouquet subscribers paying the previously charged N12,500 instead of N15,700, while Confam package subscribers will pay the old price of N7,400 instead of N9,300 per month.

For Yanga package subscribers, the old rate of N4,200 will be paid instead of the proposed N5,100; Padi subscribers will revert to the former price of N2,950 instead of N3,600.

The same goes for GOtv subscribers, who are now required to pay the old rate of N12,500 for the Super Plus package instead of N15,700.

GOtv Super users are required to pay N7,600, down from N9,600, which the company had been charging; GOtv Max subscribers are to pay N5,700; GOtv Joli, N3,950; and N2,700 for GOtv Jinja.

While the court mandated a month of free service for subscribers, MultiChoice’s stance on this remains unclear. The company intends to challenge the ruling, citing concerns about its business model.

The price rollback is expected to ease the financial burden on customers, especially during challenging economic times. Whether MultiChoice upholds the court’s additional ruling on a free month remains to be seen
