Chidimma Ezenyili, a Nigerian carer residing in the United Kingdom (UK), tragically succumbed while attending to her 86-year-old employer, Ian Hale, in Bishop’s Stortford, England.
Despite feeling unwell, Ezenyili, 37, remained committed to her responsibilities and continued her caregiving duties for Hale, whom she had been caring for over the past five months.
Catherine Segal, Hale’s daughter, recounted the harrowing incident, stating that Ezenyili collapsed on February 22 and ceased breathing, prompting frantic efforts from her husband and neighbors to revive her.
Despite the community’s valiant efforts, Ezenyili was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where medical professionals discovered she had suffered a severe brain haemorrhage. Tragically, life support was discontinued two days later, and Ezenyili passed away on February 24, with her husband by her side.
Ezenyili and her husband, Friday, migrated to the UK from Nigeria in August 2023, seeking a better life for their three-year-old daughter, Mandy. Both worked as carers under sponsorship visas, with Ezenyili aspiring to pursue her legal qualifications in the UK following her caregiving tenure.
In light of this heartbreaking loss, Segal has initiated a crowdfunding campaign to support Friday and Mandy during this difficult time.
