The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) kicks off a two-day nationwide protest today, February 27, 2024, following unsuccessful negotiations with the Federal Government.
A government delegation, led by George Akume, engaged with NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC) leaders on Monday night, but talks ended without resolution.
NLC President Ajaero emphasized the peaceful nature of the rally, demanding security for union members, and announced plans to submit grievances to lawmakers.
Meanwhile, the TUC pressures the government to import food items amid escalating hunger, advocating for urgent action to address economic hardships.
TUC President Osifo urged immediate food imports, urged state governments to cultivate crops, and called for stability in foreign exchange rates to deter speculation.
Both unions highlight the urgency of addressing economic challenges facing Nigerians nationwide.
