Petroleum marketers announced that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has opened its fuel reserves across the country to address the ongoing fuel scarcity in Nigeria.
In separate statements following a meeting with NNPCL, Hammed Fashola, National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), and Billy Hilly-Harry of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), highlighted the collaboration with NNPCL to end the scarcity.
Fashola mentioned that IPMAN’s National Executive Council would meet on Monday to further discuss measures to ensure the availability of fuel nationwide. He also urged Nigerians to refrain from panic buying, assuring them that fuel would be accessible throughout the country.
“We are officially meeting with other marketers on Monday. We are working closely with NNPC. After the meeting, we will reach out to NNPC to continue our collaboration,” he said. “NNPCL has opened up their reserves in all depots throughout the federation to ensure that everywhere is wet, so the scarcity can disappear.”
Hilly-Harry noted that recent discussions with NNPCL have already begun to yield positive results, with queues at fuel stations easing in Abuja over the weekend.
“If you go to Abuja today (Saturday), you will see that the queues have eased off,” he stated. “NNPCL is taking the right steps, and we are working with them to ensure better outcomes for everyone.”
Despite recent assurances from NNPCL, Nigerians have continued to face fuel scarcity in recent weeks, with long lines at fuel stations and higher prices due to reduced supply.
