OGSIEC Lowers Contestant Age, Extends Party Primaries by One Week

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has adjusted the age eligibility for candidates in the upcoming local government elections, reducing the minimum age from 30 to 25 years.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Babatunde Osibodu, this change aligns the election guidelines with Section 7(4) & 106 of the Nigerian Constitution, which states a candidate is eligible if they have reached 25 years of age.

OGSIEC has also extended the deadline for party primaries by one week, from the initial September 9 to September 16, 2024. Parties can collect the required forms (CF001 and CF002) from September 10, with submissions accepted from September 16 to 20, 2024.

A meeting with all parties is scheduled for September 9, 2024, at the OGSIEC Headquarters in Abeokuta at 12 noon. Each party is allowed up to two representatives. The main election dates remain unchanged, with Chairmanship and Councillorship elections set for November 16, 2023.
