Ogun Begins Renovation of MKO Abiola Stadium for National Sports Festival

The Ogun State government has started the renovation of MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, ahead of the upcoming National Sports Festival, dubbed “Gateway Games 2024.”

Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, disclosed this during an inspection of the stadium, announcing its temporary closure for the upgrade. The renovation aims to revamp the facility and give it a fresh look.

Hon. Isiaka highlighted areas for improvement, including the VIP section, tracks, pitch, handball court, and more. He also mentioned that new features, such as a swimming pool section, would be added for the festival.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to grassroots sports development, the Commissioner assured that the renovation would be completed promptly, allowing time for a test-run before the national event in January 2025.
