The Ogun State Government, through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has disbursed an additional N1 billion gratuity to retired local government workers and primary school teachers for the 3rd quarter of 2024, reaffirming its dedication to the well-being of pensioners.
Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Engr. Olufisan Osiyale, made this known at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. He stated that this action aligns with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to consistently release gratuities.
Engr. Osiyale highlighted the government’s deep concern for pensioners, especially amid the current economic challenges, assuring that the administration would continue to prioritize senior citizens’ welfare to enhance their quality of life.
He further explained that payments were also made to the next-of-kin of deceased pensioners and advised recipients to use the funds to improve their well-being.
In separate comments, the State Chairmen of the Association of Retired Primary School Teachers of Ogun State (ARPSTOS), Mr. Zacchaeus Adekoya; Local Government Pensioners Association of Nigeria (LOGPAN), Pastor Benedict Ademoye; and the Chairperson of the Retired Primary School Teachers Association of Nigeria (REPSTAN), Mrs. Caroline Oguntola, praised the governor for the regular payment of monthly pensions and the quarterly gratuity disbursements, urging continued efforts to improve retirees’ lives.
Two beneficiaries, Mr. Mathew Akinsanmi and Mrs. Bolanle Sodeke, expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for the support and urged him to maintain his efforts to ensure other retirees benefit during their lifetimes.
