Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have announced the arrest of Kehinde Yemitan, a suspect in a murder and ritual case, who was found hiding in the Ilogbo Ota community.
The suspect’s twin brother, Taiwo, was earlier arrested on December 22 alongside an accomplice, Kazeem, for allegedly murdering and dismembering a commercial sex worker, identified as Darasimi, after luring her to their Abeokuta residence.
The spokesperson of the command, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Odutola stated, “Having been identified as an accomplice in the crime, the police surveillance team, in collaboration with the So-Safe Corps, had been tracking Kehinde until intelligence revealed his location on Monday.”
She added, “On December 30, 2024, around 5:00 PM, the Divisional Police Officer of Sango Ota received a tip from a volunteer informant about the whereabouts of Kehinde Yemitan, the twin brother of Taiwo Yemitan. He was hiding in the Ilogbo community.
“The police launched a manhunt for Kehinde in connection with the murder and mutilation of the head of Darasimi (surname unknown) on December 22, 2024, after his twin brother, Taiwo, and Kazeem were arrested around 1:40 AM by the Divisional Police Officer of Lafenwa. The duo had lured Darasimi, a commercial sex worker, to their house in Abeokuta for ritual purposes.”
Acting on this information, a joint surveillance team, including the So-Safe Corps, mobilized to the area and successfully apprehended Kehinde.
Odutola said, “He confessed to conspiring with others to commit the crime in Abeokuta. Community members also corroborated his involvement in criminal activities.”
The suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Odutola has cautioned young women against engaging in casual relationships for financial gain, commonly referred to as “hookups,” due to the inherent risks.
She further appealed to parents to raise awareness about the dangers of vices such as prostitution, which can lead to tragic outcomes.
“A further appeal goes to young females to see this unfortunate incident as a lesson and remain vigilant to avoid falling victim to ritual killings,” she added.
