Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended a suspected ritualist, Taiwo Yemitan, who was allegedly found in possession of a fresh human head and dismembered body parts of a female victim in the Lafenwa area of Abeokuta.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abeokuta. She revealed that the 45-year-old suspect was arrested at around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday at his residence located behind Atinsola Petrol Station, Sanni, Abeokuta.
Odutola explained that the arrest followed a tip-off from local security outfits, including the Agbekoya and Vigilante operatives, who alerted the police.
“The suspect admitted to knowing the deceased, identified as Darasimi, and confessed to luring her to his residence with the intention of killing her.
“He further confessed to the murder and implicated two other individuals, Kehinde Yemitan and one Kazeem (surname unknown), as accomplices in the act. Their plan was to sell the victim’s head and other body parts,” Odutola stated.
The dismembered body of the victim has been transported to the general hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta, for a post-mortem examination.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the accomplices and locate the relatives of the deceased.
SP Odutola added that the suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
She also recalled a similar incident earlier this year involving one Azeez Adebayo, who confessed to killing three women with the help of accomplices after luring them through hookup arrangements.
According to Odutola, Adebayo and his group targeted young women through a hookup platform called “My Chat,” offering them large sums of money to lure them to specific locations, where they were ultimately killed.
She urged young women to avoid engaging in hookup practices and to be content with legitimate means of earning a living, noting that many girls involved in hookups are at high risk of falling victim to ritualists.
Odutola further advised young women to remain cautious and avoid falling prey to the dangers of online dating platforms, emphasizing the importance of leveraging social media for positive and safe purposes.
The police spokesperson also called on parents to provide proper guidance and supervision for their daughters to prevent such tragedies.
