The Ogun State government has taken responsibility for a 12-year-old minor allegedly molested by her guardian in Ewekoro local government area.
A 25-year-old, Temitope Adetanju, allegedly inserted a piece of firewood into the victim’s vagina for stealing biscuits worth N200, Milo worth N150, and Mr. Fruit worth N300.
The incident occurred around 11:00 am on Thursday, according to the state Police Command. The suspect was arrested by the Divisional Police Officer in Obada-Oko.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, stated on Friday that the ministry has taken responsibility for the minor, ensuring full medical attention and psychosocial support.
Adeleye remarked, “Our attention was drawn to a viral video showing a minor being beaten and tortured. In response, the Ministry immediately acted to locate and identify the victim and the alleged perpetrator, Mrs. Adeyanju Temitope, who is now in police custody. With the help of various stakeholders, we are gathering relevant details to support further investigation by law enforcement agencies.”
“Additionally, we are providing the minor with comprehensive medical and psychosocial support. The Abiodun administration is dedicated to child safety and protection. Anyone found violating the State Child Rights Law will face severe consequences.”
The commissioner also urged the public to report any cases of child abuse or gender-based violence.
