In its ongoing commitment to uphold global environmental standards within industries, the Ogun State Government has taken decisive action by shutting down Tera Aqua Environmental Consult in Sango Ota. The closure comes as a response to serious and harmful environmental infractions observed at the facility.

Farook Akintunde, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment and Chairman of the Task Force on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, revealed that the company was found to be operating under conditions that posed significant risks to both the environment and residents. The production processes, notably the burning of tires, were identified as particularly detrimental, with adverse impacts on the surrounding area.

Among the infractions cited were the continuous release of noxious gases, untreated wastewater, and suspended particles into the environment. These actions not only violated environmental regulations but also prompted protests from local residents due to the negative effects on their health and well-being.

Further investigations revealed that the company operated without the necessary environmental approvals and environmental impact assessments, in clear contravention of state guidelines. As a result, the state government took the decision to shut down the facility until these critical issues are addressed.

Akintunde emphasized the government’s unwavering stance on environmental protection, stressing that companies must adhere to regulations to avoid such consequences. While the government remains supportive of businesses, it will not tolerate actions that jeopardize the well-being of residents or violate environmental laws.

In response to the closure, Obanla Abel, Vice Chairman of Riverview Community, expressed gratitude to the state government for intervening. He highlighted the significant hardships caused by the company’s operations, including the release of harmful gases and untreated wastewater, and welcomed the decisive action taken to address the situation.
