Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, reiterated his administration’s dedication to fostering a secure, supportive, and inclusive setting where every child in the state can flourish and achieve their aspirations.
Governor Abiodun announced this during the 2024 Children’s Day celebration themed, “Enhancing the Total Well-Being of Nigerian Child Through Quality Education and Skills Development,” held at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta. He emphasized that education is central to the government’s efforts to empower children to face future challenges and opportunities.
Represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele FNSE, the governor noted the theme’s relevance to current global best practices, assuring that the government would continue to prepare children for the future.
“Our dedication to their well-being and future success remains a priority for this administration. Social welfare, quality education, and human-capital development are key components of our ISEYA developmental pillar,” he stated.
“We consistently employ teachers and implement the Ogun Teach Intervention Programme to address staffing needs in primary, secondary, and technical schools across the state,” he added.
The Governor highlighted significant progress in expanding access to quality education for all children, ensuring compulsory and free basic education in public schools.
He commended the Office of the First Lady, Ministries of Women Affairs and Social Development, Education, Science and Technology, Youth and Sports Development, and other key agencies for their contributions to children’s development, pledging continued support.
Abiodun encouraged children to recognize their limitless potential and strive for excellence, aligning with the government’s efforts to build a brighter future for the state and Nigeria.
In an interview, Miss Yetunde Ajisafe from Nawarudeen High School, Oke-Ijehun, Abeokuta, thanked the governor for prioritizing children’s welfare and celebrating them to instill a sense of belonging.
The celebration featured a march-past by schools and NGOs, and the presentation of awards to outstanding participants in the exercise and essay competition.
