The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Ogun State, Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, alongside key market leaders, led a significant sensitization initiative at Siun and Kuto Markets.
Joined by the Iyaloja General of Ogun State, Chief Yemisi Abass, and the Iyaloja of Egbaland, Mrs. Oluwakemi Oloyede, the Commissioner emphasized the urgent need for market women and traders to adopt fair pricing practices, particularly for essential commodities.
Accompanied by a team of management staff led by the Permanent Secretary, the visit underscored the growing concern over the rising cost of basic food items, which has increasingly strained the finances of many families.
Hon. Adeleye earnestly appealed to the Babalojas and Iyalojas to lead by example, urging them to set prices that reflect empathy towards the economic challenges faced by the common man.
“This initiative is not just a plea but a clarion call for collective responsibility and action,” the Commissioner stated. By adopting reasonable pricing strategies, traders can play a vital role in easing the financial burden on families, fostering goodwill, and strengthening the community.
The Commissioner called on all market stakeholders to work together in creating an environment where all residents can thrive and access the essentials needed for a decent quality of life.
Hon. Adeleye concluded by highlighting the importance of solidarity in these challenging times, urging traders to ensure that markets remain places of hope and sustenance for all.
