The revered Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, has passed away at the age of 81.

Oba Balogun, who ascended the throne just over two years ago, following his formal installation by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on March 11, 2022, breathed his last today.

Governor Makinde, in a somber statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, paid tribute to the late monarch’s significant contributions to Ibadanland during his brief but impactful reign.

Describing Oba Balogun as a towering figure in the community, Governor Makinde extended heartfelt condolences to the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Traditional Council, and the entire populace of Ibadanland and Oyo State.

“The passing of Oba Dr. Balogun marks the end of an era for Ibadanland, leaving behind a profound void in its rich history and heritage,” expressed Governor Makinde.

The cause of Oba Balogun’s demise remains unknown at this time.
